Data Deletion Request

You have complete control over your data. This page explains how to delete your data.

Delete Your Account (Recommended)

The easiest way to delete all your data is to delete your account directly from the app:

📱 In-App Account Deletion

  1. Open the New Year New Me app
  2. Go to Profile tab
  3. Tap Settings (gear icon)
  4. Scroll down and tap "Delete Account"
  5. Confirm your decision
  6. Enter your password to verify
  7. Tap "Permanently Delete Account"

⚠️ This action is permanent and cannot be undone.

What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, we permanently delete:

  • Your account credentials and profile information
  • All prayers, goals, tasks, and journal entries
  • Vision board items and uploaded images
  • Gamification data (points, streaks, achievements)
  • Community connections and accountability partnerships
  • All personal content and notes
  • Usage history and preferences

Data Retention

Deleted Within 30 Days:

Most personal data is deleted from our active systems within 30 days of account deletion.

Retained for Legal Compliance:

Some data may be retained for legal, regulatory, or security purposes:

  • Transaction records (required for tax/accounting)
  • Security logs (fraud prevention)
  • Legal dispute records

This data is anonymized where possible and deleted when legally allowed.

Backup Systems:

Deleted data may remain in backup systems for up to 90 days before being purged.

Alternative: Email Request

If you cannot delete your account through the app (e.g., you've lost access), you can submit a data deletion request via email:

Include in email:

  • Your registered email address
  • Account username (if different from email)
  • Reason for deletion (optional)
  • Confirmation that you want ALL data deleted

We will respond within 5 business days and complete the deletion within 30 days.

Subscription Cancellation

⚠️ Important: Cancel Subscription First

Deleting your account does NOT automatically cancel your subscription. If you have an active premium subscription:

  1. Cancel subscription through Apple App Store or Google Play Store FIRST
  2. Wait for cancellation confirmation
  3. Then delete your account

How to cancel subscriptions:

iOS: Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions → New Year New Me → Cancel

Android: Google Play Store → Menu → Subscriptions → New Year New Me → Cancel

Before You Delete

💾 Consider Exporting Your Data

Before deleting your account, you may want to export your data:

  • Export feature available for premium users
  • Downloads all prayers, goals, journal entries
  • Includes gamification stats and streaks
  • Format: JSON file for easy backup

To export: Profile → Settings → Export My Data

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I recover my account after deletion?

No. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. All data is permanently deleted.

Will deleting my account cancel my subscription?

No. You must cancel your subscription separately through the App Store or Google Play.

Can I delete specific data instead of my entire account?

Yes! You can delete individual prayers, goals, journal entries, etc. from within the app without deleting your account.

What happens to data I shared with accountability partners?

Shared content is removed from their view when you delete your account. However, they may have their own copies of notes or reactions.

How long does deletion take?

Most data is deleted immediately. Complete purge from all systems (including backups) takes up to 90 days.
